A quick search will tell you there aren’t too many blogs out there about teenagers with Prader-Willi syndrome. By the time the teen years roll around we’re not as mired in grief, our support systems are hopefully in place, and, quite honestly, we are so tired of PWS that we’d rather spend that rare free hour at a yoga class, watching a baseball game with the family, or sipping wine with a friend than sit down and write about it. Of course, I’m speaking only for myself here…and yet I am still compelled to document these teen years.
In addition to coordinating Oscar’s educational and medical needs and the usual mother-of-three carpooling and chef duties, I’m also the membership coordinator for Write On Mamas, a San Francisco Bay Area writing group, and an Associate Director of Listen To Your Mother San Francisco, an annual show featuring stories about motherhood.
